Dr Shunpei Yamazaki, Founder & President, Semiconductor Energy Laboratory Co., Ltd., Japan
Dr Yamazaki received his Ph.D., ME, BE and honorary degrees from Doshisha University, Japan, in 1971, 1967, 1965, and 2011 respectively. He invented a non-volatile memory known as "flash memory" in 1970 during his Ph.D. program. Yamazaki is a life fellow of the IEEE, distinguished foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation (CGIF) of the American Ceramic Society. He was awarded “Medal with Purple Ribbon” by the Japanese Prime Minister’s Office for the innovation of MOS LSI element technology in 1997 and was the winner of the Okochi Memorial Technology Award in 2010. He received Medal for Advancement of Ceramic Technology from the American Ceramic Society in 2016 (inaugural winner). He received the 2015 SID Special Recognition Award for discovering CAAC-IGZO semiconductors, leading its practical application, and paving the way to next-generation displays by developing new information-display devices such as foldable or 8K×4K displays. Yamazaki has authored or co-authored over 400 papers or conference presentations. He had obtained a total of 11,353 patents on semiconductor devices and thin-film transistors as of June 30, 2016. He holds the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Title as "Most Patents Credited as Inventor" with 11,353 Patents in September 30, 2016.

Prof. Alexander Michaelis Fraunhofer Institute of Ceramic Technologies and Systems, IKTS, Dresden, Germany
Prof. Alexander Michaelis studied physics at the University of Düsseldorf in Germany and graduated with a diploma thesis in laser and plasma physics. Subsequently he switched to the field of physical chemistry and received his doctorate in electrochemistry. In 1995 he spend one year as faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA. There, he worked on high temperature superconductors YBCO and Si-based microelectronic systems. In 1996 he accepted a position at Siemens AG working as senior process integration engineer in the field of microelectronics amongst others at the DRAM Development Alliance in East Fishkill, New York. In 2000, he began to work for the corporate research department of Bayer AG in Leverkusen. From there he was delegated to H.C. Starck GmbH, a Bayer subsidiary, where he was head of the Electroceramics and the New Business Development department.
Furthermore, he was the managing director of InDEC B.V. working in the field of solid oxide fuel cells. During this time he also finished his state doctorate (habilitation treatise) at University of Düsseldorf.
Since 2004, he is president of the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS with more than 600 employees and a yearly budget of over 54 Mio €. Furthermore, he has been holding the chair of Inorganic Nonmetallic Materials at TU (technical university) of Dresden.
He has more than 40 patent families in materials science, microelectronics, and electronics and provided more than 250 publications. In 2012 Prof. Alexander Michaelis was awarded the ACerS Bridge Building Award for his contribution in the field of energy and environmental technology.
In 2014 he received the Fraunhofer Medal for outstanding achievements in the field of applied materials research.
2015 he was awarded the LEE HSUN Award on Materials Science of the Chinese Academy of Science.
In 2016, the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) named Prof. Michaelis “Fellow of the Society” for his long commitment and outstanding contributions to applied research and development of advanced ceramics.
During the 15th Conference & Exhibition of the European Ceramic Society (ECerS2017) in Budapest, Hungary he was elected to the grade of fellow.

Prof. Jean Marie Tarascon, Collège de France in Paris, France
Prof Tarascon (1953) is a Professor at the College de France holding the chair “Chemistry of solids – Energy”. But much of his early career was spent in the United States where he developed (1994) the plastic Li-ion technology. Back to France in 1995, he headed the creation of the European network of excellence ALISTORE-ERI until 2010 when he took over the direction of the new LABEX “STORE-EX”. In 2011 he was in charge of the recently created French network on electrochemical energy storage (RS2E). Tarascon’s present research is devoted to Li-ion, Na-ion batteries and other chemistries with emphasis on developing new eco-efficient synthesis processes and developing novel reactivity concepts. He is the author of more than 650 scientific papers, and detains about 85 patents. He is a member of the French Academy of Science and a foreign member of the royal society since 2014. He received many honours with the latest in 2017 being the Galvani medal from the Italian Electrochemical society and the CNRS innovation medal, and the Eric and Sheila Samson Award.
